Definition of Education


Sense, The Function and Purpose of Education
 
Definition of Education :

Education is a very important activity for preparing children to their  life in the future. The process of education has existed since humans existed, although the process is still very simple implementation. The aim is for be mature kids.

The understanding education in terms of the term:

     Indonesian: WYS Purwodarminto (Dictionary, 1979) defines education as an action word (case, how to) educate.
     Java language: Panggulawentah means cultivate, nurture spiritual, in finalizing the feelings, the will and the character of the child.
     Dutch: opevoending term means the act of raising a child in the sense geestelyk (psychotherapy, Java).
     Roman Language: The term educare which means removing and lead.


A. Education Devinition
Education Definition  according to Langeveld is to educate is to provide relief to consciously and deliberately to a child (immature) in the direction of growth toward maturity in independent  and responsible for all appropriate actions according their own choices ".

Three core of human nature according to Langeveld:
1 Human beings essentially as an individual.
2 Man is essentially a social being.
3 Man essentially as a moral creature.

Education by John Dewey: "Etymologically, the word education means just a tap processnof or bringing up".
Meanwhile, according to Ki Hajar Dewantara education, education that leads all the power of nature that exist on the children, so that they are as human beings and as members of society it can be got save and highest happiness (Assembly Noble Park Student Union, 1962) .    

B. Concept of Education Seen From Indonesian Legislation
According to the provisions of Decree No. IV / MPR / 1973 Education is essentially a conscious effort to develop the personality and ability on the inside and outside of school and last a lifetime. Meanwhile, according to Law No. 10 Year 2003 on National Education System In UUsp No. 20, 2003, article 1, paragraph 1, that:
Education is a conscious and deliberate effort to create an atmosphere of learning and the learning process so that learners are actively developing the potential for him to have the spiritual strength of religious, self-control, personality, intelligence, noble character, and skills needed him, community, nation, and state.


  C.Process of Education
In this section are discussed in three ways, namely:
1. When Education Begins
Langeveld argues that since the child's education starts have known gezag / authority and ends after the child becomes an adult. While the general education process starts from the child still in the womb (Pre Christmas).

2. When the educational process ends
According Langeveld educational process ends when the child reaches the level of highest. But the essence of education lasts a lifetime (Long Life Education).

The basis used in the distribution of the three types of educational institutions are
authority and prestige. The three institutions that have the authority for education is:
1 Family Environment
2 School of Environmental
3. community environment

D. Functions of Education

  1. Education as Enforcement Value

Education is the enforcement community with the sense of value in maintaining and keeping fixed the values ​​for sustainability community preformance. To has preserved and preserve these values ​​by itself education must be selective in order not to cause upheavals in the community.

2.  Means For Education Development Society
Educational process is always happening in society, and aims to develop public education itself. The process will run continuously for the community there. The adults in a society will form the educator in a family environment, respectively.

3. Education as a Human Potential Development Efforts
In developing the values
​​that live in the midst of this society are directly or indirectly related to pengembangankemampuan community, and is closely related to the formation of a flexible community members who can act as a good member of society and can act accordingly.
